Marriott Data Breach Is Traced to Chinese Hackers as U.S. Readies Crackdown on Beijing

The cyberattack on the Marriott hotel chain that collected passport information or other personal details of roughly 500 million guests was part of a Chinese intelligence-gathering effort that hacked health insurers, other hotels and the security clearance files of millions more Americans, according to two people briefed on the preliminary results of the investigation.

The hackers are suspected of working on behalf of the Ministry of State Security. The discovery comes as the Trump administration plans a series of actions targeting China’s trade, cyber and economic policies.

The Justice Department is preparing to announce new indictments against Chinese hackers working for the intelligence and military services, according to four government officials who spoke on condition of anonymity. The Trump administration also plans to declassify intelligence to reveal concerted efforts by Chinese agents, dating to 2014 or earlier, to build a database containing names of executives and American government officials with security clearances.

Trump Is Starting a Cold War With China to Distract From the Russia Scandal

In his interview with 60 Minutes last night...

Lesley Stahl: Why do you say Chi — why don’t you just say —

President Donald Trump: Well, let me ask you —

Lesley Stahl: — the Russians meddled?

President Donald Trump: Because I think China meddled also. And I think, frankly, China —

Lesley Stahl: This is amazing.

President Donald Trump: — is a bigger problem.

Blech! If you went to the NYT website to read the whole article, and read the comments, you’d want to vomit. I do not allow the NYT into my home, nor do I generally read any article from it online, anti-semitic filth that it is. The comments were almost all from a bunch of really ‘tarded libtards, ones who drank the Kool-Aid by the gallon, not the glassful. They are busy defending criminal China and making excuses for China’s abominable thefts and policies.

Rest assured they have a hell of a lot more than that. God only knows how much intel they got from BillyJeff for a mere 30 pieces of plata in the 90s. The hackers were probably just gleaning the scraps by then.

That's true. And it was damaging, e.g. military secrets. However the stuff they are taking to this day is up-to-date. The up-to-date stuff has a lot of value for targetting potential victims (extortion, subversion, etc) In fact they need a steady stream of new information about potential victims to feed their espionage machine.

The basic issue is we always invent new stuff and have new people who know new secrets and they have to keep up.

Yea!The U.S.government is going to file indictments.Against who?Are these prosecuters out of their minds?

They know damned well the Chicoms are not going to allow the serving indictments on Chinese soil.So it’s just a waste of time.

This country has to harden its data networks so this crap will stop.At the same time we need to go on the offensive in the computer wars.Cyber warfare is going to become just as important as sea power or air superiority.

If our networks are damaged we’re going to be in big trouble.

China is very paranoid about “spies” visiting China.

Marriott was targeted because it is the favorite of media “journalists” and government agents.

By knowing whom the frequent guests are, passport ID and visited locations they can easily figure out and follow “agents”.
