A campaign volunteer for a Chicago City Council hopeful was shot while recording himself canvassing on Facebook Live, police and the candidate said.

The victim — identified by the candidate as Maxwell Little — was shot in the leg by a man wearing a red mask at about 1:46 p.m in the West Englewood neighborhood on the city's south side, Chicago police said Monday.

Little, 32, was recording himself on Facebook Live talking about his support for candidate Joseph Williams when gunfire erupted, according to Williams. The alleged shooter then ran away, police said, and there was no immediate arrest.

At some point after the shooting, Little posted on Facebook: “Whoever tried to kill me failed. My political views will not change no matter what.”

Williams did not speculate on who could be behind the attack. A police spokeswoman on Monday declined to say whether detectives have determined a motive.

The 15th Ward is now represented by Raymond Lopez, who is facing six challengers on the Feb. 26 ballot.

SNIP

"What happened yesterday was a pretty tragic event," he told NBC News. "This why we need to curb gun violence in our community."

“This is why we need to curb gun violence in our neighborhoods.”

Nope...

“This is why we need to curb violent people in our neighborhoods.”

There now... all fixed.

“Whoever tried to kill me failed. My political views will not change no matter what.”

Not entirely convinced his political views had ANYTHING to do with it unless they had some sort of political disagreement with the shooter prior to the shooting. Wouldn’t be the 1st time somebody got shot just for being in the wrong place at the wrong time for no apparent reason. And from what I’m hearing Chicago is the wrong place to be ANY time.

The 15th ward was one of those wards on the cities southwest side which originally had identifiable small business communities that existed in area streets lying roughly between 51st to 65th streets north and south and Ashland and Kedzie Avenues east and west.

After several ward re-districtings all those southwest side wards 11th,12th,13th,14th (Alderman Burkes Ward) 15th and 23rd have had drastic changes. An example of this is the 14th. Edmund Burke has been its Chicago Alderman for 50 years.Burke’s brother recently ran for state rep and lost. His wife is a judge.

His ward ,14th, was originally known as “Back of The Yards” Once the home of the famous Chicago Stock Yards where most food processors along with employee demographics have since relocated. That area was roughly between 39th st to 55th, Wenworth to Damen

When redistricted along with several other wards. Chicago had neighborhoods divided to create “Hispanic” residential sections going to Hispanic candidates for alderman and congressional districts (Gutierez) and blacks going to black candidates. In Burkes case the 14th extends from Damen to Harlem along 51st street taking out sections of the 12th and the 23rd (Midway airport area) wards.

That has had the effect of dissolving a contiguous geographic continuity and community identity. Which has played hell because of the disruption of jurisdictions with the administration of city services such as streets and sanitation which the alderman (salary 2006 was $89,000 plus allocations on local projects) do oversee and have input over..
