China has probably been a/the force in encouraging this. They pull the strings in Zimbabwe - the Army chief flew to Beijing just days before launching the coup that deposed Mugabe.
The Chinese will get natural resources at fire sale prices, and the corrupt South African politicians will have a customer with cash for the stolen property (and National treasures, including Naval bases) - and world class expertise in laundering money from corruption.
This is a wholesale flip in South African from the Western model of rule of law, to China’s vision for the world.

Any sanctions against RSA because of this will be instantly treated as ‘racist’. Any relief offered to the victims of this will also be treated as ‘racist’. Failure of the RSA agricultural economy will be racist as will opposition to sending food/money to the starving/broke RSA in a few years.
You would think with the example of Zimbabwe’s history right on their border that black South Africans would see that white farmers might be handy to have around. It might well be that many black South Africans do see this, but their elected leaders obviously do not.
Other Commonwealth nations may well invite the farmers to come to their nations, and I have read that Russia has made an offer, but with Dems in control of the House, I see no way that ‘the Land of the Free’ will be able to settle them here.
That would give them an excuse to kill every white person they see.
