Trump and his ally David Perdue are subsizing the import of containers of Chinese crap by subsidizing the Savannah-Brunswick port. This makes no sense.
Why don't you think Americans can produce goods that the world wants that we can ship from Savannah?

Savannah is an interesting port because it doesn't serve a large local market like many other major U.S. ports (NY/NJ, Los Angeles, Houston, Seattle/Tacoma, etc.). This actually relates to my previous post about how growth in U.S. manufacturing has actually driven strong growth in cargo IMPORTS. Savannah is a preferred port destination for many of the foreign auto manufacturers that have built plants in the U.S. in recent years and import many of the parts and components to supply these U.S. plants.
