I’ve always wondered about this. I live in Nebraska and have never had an NICS check done. The only reason an NICS check is done is if the person does not have a firearm purchasing card with them. It is good for 3 years and takes $5 and 15 minutes to get.
The lists of gun ownership show Nebraska to be very low on gun ownership, which I do not believe at all. I wonder if the lack of NICS checks (which a LOT of people don’t need here) is the reason that gun ownership is listed as low as it is.
I saw that story and immediately doubted it too. I live in Nebraska also. I can account for at least 40 firearms between me and my neighbors that I am friends with who live within a block of me in my subdivision. I have several firearms of all varieties, all of which I acquired through either inheritance or private transactions so I have never gotten an NICS check. Most all of my friends that are not neighbors own multiple firearms of some sort as well. Most of them dont hunt either. All anecdotal but it sure doesnt fit with that article that we read.
Merry Christmas to you Jim. Lets hope Nebraska gets some of that global warming soon. Winter has come too soon.
