University of North Texas Suspends Student for… Gun Ownership??
Ammoland ^ | 6 December, 2018 | Open Carry Texas

Brandon Masin

Brandon Masin is a 25-year-old student at the University of North Texas at Dallas College of Law. He is the founder of the law school’s chapter of The Federalist Society, the only conservative student organization on campus.

On the evening of November 20th, 2018, while at an outing hosted by one of his professors for the holiday, Brandon received an email from the university stating that due to an alleged and unspecified threat he was immediately suspended and would have to meet with the school's CARE team. He emailed several times asking procedural questions about the investigation as it was unfolding out of compliance with the university's own policies and Due Process. He never received a response, only a date and time to meet with the team.

At the meeting the CARE team turned out to be the University's Counselor and Chief of Police, he was vaguely questioned about the unspecified allegations, and after sticking by his denials, he was then questioned about his mental health. If he had any anger issues if he had a firearm, how many, why he felt the need to own firearms? If he was licensed to carry them, if he carried at the school, whether he felt unsafe at the school and if he ever open carried.

Apparently, the school was singling him out as a conservative, licensed gun owner and not concerned about safety.

After this line of questioning the CARE Team departed and the school's investigator and an assistant came in. They also vaguely questioned him about the unspecified allegation but were at least more specific by letting him know that the allegation was supposedly an off-campus threat against the university and a professor that had happened “later in the day.”

Christopher Shaw Named UNT Dallas Chief of Police

The University of North Texas at Dallas announced that Christopher Shaw has been named Chief of Police. Shaw, one of the founding members of the UNT Dallas Police Department, has served as interim chief of police since 2016 and is the second appointed chief since the department was established.

He has served as a commissioned law enforcement officer for nine years, starting his career at the University of North Texas Police Dept. as a patrol officer and crime prevention liaison before transitioning to UNT Dallas. He received a Certificate of Merit and a Life Saving Award, and earned a Master of Science in Criminal Justice from UNT in 2015.

Those law schools debts aren’t going to be a problem. He should have immediately filed a federal civil rights lawsuit naming the individuals involved. He’s in for a big payday.

UNT is a very liberal campus. Not indicative of the rest of the state.

That may be true for the moment, but UNT and its law school are bent on producing Red (anti-American) voters. Many of those voters will relocate elsewhere in the state.

It has always amazed me that so many law grads are flaming liberals, despite the fact they just finished several years of intense study involving thinking, discernment and reasoning.

despite the fact they just finished several years of intense study involving thinking, discernment and reasoning.

Thinking, discernment and reasoning do little good if you start with false premises about reality.

What most modern universities do very well, is inculcate false assumptions about the nature of reality into their students.

Here are a few:

There is no God.

Government is beneficent, if only run by the right people.

Experts know more than you, and should make many decisions for you.

Capitalism is greed.

Capitalism is bad.

Capitalism creates poverty.

National Socialism is right wing.

Poverty causes crime.

Republicans are racist.

Western society is evil.

Homosexuality is good.

Christianity is the root of most evil.

There are more. But accept most of those as basic truths, and it will be hard to make logical decisions that make sense to those who reject those assumptions.

Don’t tell me Texas is not turning blue.

********

If you’ll look Texas hasn’t been in the red column all that
long. The last Texas Democrat US Senator left office in
June 1993. The last Texas Democrat governor left office in
January 17, 1995.

University of North Texas is a public university. It can not use the excuse of a private institution. They are in deep doo doo. Add to the list of charges oppression under the color of law. Note that this is not the race card, this is discriminatory behavior denying rights under the Second Amendment and Texas Law of a law abiding armed citizen. Was he carrying on campus? Or was this just because he was a gun owner and held a legal Texas License to Carry? If the latter, not only should he take UNT to the cleaners, the directors should be marched to the Red River and told not to set foot in Texas.

“At some point in the not too distant future, anyone who owns or wants to purchase a firearm will need to show a valid reason (valid reason to be interpreted by the government) to possess and or to purchase a firearm of any kind.”

Demonstrate need acceptable to law enforcement for simple possession of a firearm? The only place that’s true is New York City, and that’s for handguns only.

I totally agree that gungrabber’s ultimate goal is confiscation such as in Britain & Australia. But their political systems are different from ours; legislation to confiscate involves a much more difficult process in America.

The most scary laws right now are the Red Flag turn-in-your-neighbor laws in certain blue states. But shall issue CCW is the law in most states.

Noncompliance to registration of scary black rifles in those same states is about ten percent; LEOs just don’t have the resources to go knocking on doors. Stopping & searching random vehicles equals police state and hatred of LEOs by citizens; they are not the Gestapo.

Check the NRA legislative alerts for California. Legislation brewing in the California state house is to tax gun and ammo purchases in order to support and fund law enforcement to do the bidding of the gun grabber politicians, thus what ever it takes to infringe on our Second Amendment Rights. Reminiscent of China; send a charge to the family for the bullet that government used to execute their family member. The democrats in office have more than proved their resourcefulness to get their way. i.e.; vote fraud to keep their majority rule and to steel back the US House.

yep, our system made it really hard for then AG Dan Lungren to confiscate the SKSs from California citizens. It's not a nightmare, it really happened and it happened in this country. Judicial activism allowed it to happen and with that, it can and will certainly happen again. The Lungren confiscation is now being used across this country as case law for the gun grabbers on steroids. The communist Governor elect, Gavin Newsom will no doubt go after all privately owned firearms. Regardless of POTUS Trump and a constitutional believing majority of the SCOTUS, the gun grabber politicians will continue to argue State's Rights. It's worked in most cases because the SCOTUS refuses to hear 99% of those kinds of challenges to Constitutional law. I'm sure you can tell, I have ZERO faith in our legal system when it comes to the Constitution and equal juste for all.

Thinking, discernment and reasoning do little good if you start with false premises about reality.

While much of your post makes sense and it appears we are of a similar mind, I disagree with that statement.

IM0, thinking, discernment and reasoning is exactly how one detects and identifies false premises. That ability is certainly required to be a competent lawyer.

I think what is at work here is that some law grads simply take the easy road and allow their inclinations and understandings, as formed by years of mis-taught history and liberal indoctrination, to prevail over intellectual honesty. I do believe that many eventually see the light after a few years of experiencing reality although I have never witnessed such a conversion in the event.

Have a nice weekend.

Looks like they were using questioning techniques designed to get him irritated at the inanity so they could claim he had anger issues.....must have studied under Mueller.

why he felt the need to own firearms?

Did he counter with “Why do you feel the need to exercise free speech?”

“Need” is not required to exercise a RIGHT!
