An attorney for President Trump requested the court obtain $800,000 in legal fees and penalties from porn star actress Stormy Daniels for her unsuccessful defamation lawsuit against the president.
Attorney Charles Harder said his firm spent more than 500 hours and $390,000 in legal fees defending the president and asked the court to press for just as much money in sanctions to deter “frivolous defamation cases.”
“This action is virtually unprecedented in American legal history,” Harder wrote in court papers. Daniels “not only brought a meritless claim for defamation against the sitting president of the United States, but she also has engaged, along with her attorney, in massive national publicity.”

Trump knows that. This suit against her is just a shot across the bow for any present or future money-seeking/publicity-seeking Trump-accusers to think twice before throwing charges against him. Good for him and his lawyers for this preemptive move.

Correct. Of course, the client might still have grounds for a malpractice suit. In a situation like this where the case was so frivolous that attorneys' fees were awarded, a malpractice suit could have some merit. Of course, CPL doesn't have any money to pay, but he may have malpractice insurance she could tap into.
I agree, and I think it is critical that the “warning sign” be out there. Think about the whole Kavanaugh deal, where an innocent and vulnerable (as contrasted to POTUS)person was almost destroyed for life.
There need to be CONSEQUENCES to these actions. I am still hoping to see some charges filed related to the Kavanaugh allegations scandal.

First step for Stormy is a Chapter filing in Manhattan which should hold off any enforcement of judgment for a year or so. Next step start work on a tell all autobiographical film exposing any other business celebrity types and their proclivities. Finally, a change of life commitment to religion and a battered women’s organization.

Avenatti raised $600K through "go fund me", but who knows where that money went? And after she pays his legal fees, she is still under the non-disclosure agreement, so what can she put in her book without forfeiting all the profit to Trump again? Yep, she appears to be screwed. But this greedy, opportunistic gold-digger can't say she didn't bring this on herself...
As for Avenatti, how the hell is this guy still able to practice law?
