President Trump called on Democrats on Tuesday to vote to fund his proposed border wall, saying the project would pay "for itself in two months."
In a tweet, Trump claimed "our Country losses 250 Billion Dollars a year on illegal immigration."
Trump's appeal to Democrats comes ahead of a homeland security spending fight to avoid a partial government shutdown originally slated for Friday.
House Republicans filed a stop-gap bill to move the deadline for a partial shutdown to Dec. 21 to accommodate for the funeral of former President George H.W. Bush, who died Friday.
That bill is likely to be approved, but will leave a small window for Congressional leaders to pass appropriation bills before leaving Washington for the holidays.
And with Democrats due to take over the House in January, Trump's window to pay for his signature campaign proposal could be closing.
The House had previously passed a bill that included $5 billion for border security, but the Senate version included less than $2 billion. Trump has indicated he won’t sign a bill that includes less than $5 billion earmarked for the wall.

Our Reps and Senators are too weak to do it. Too scared by vocal minorities. Not enough backbone in them to do the right thing.
Think of The Wall as a Tariff.

Trump is weak with this appeal. Press YOUR party to hand you $5 billion....NOW! If they don’t then threaten to put every opposing member on a lobbying blacklist — shut out from your administration for as long as you’re president.
Tell Trump it can be built with private donations and selling ad space on it. Then nobody in Congress can vote it down.
The wall is a tariff
Expanding that truism, it was announced today that $7 billion in tariffs have been collected
The collected tariffs can then be converted to the wall
The tariffs are free money to be spent on the wall
More likely they are too greedy for the lobby money to risk it.
Wish he’d said “pays for itself” from the first because it would, many times per year.
The GOP has two years until the next election to take the blame for the shutdown.
Why isn’t the entire illegal immigration system self supporting? Seize their assets and let them foot the bill.
