In one of his first acts in office, Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador has signed an agreement with his counterparts from three Central American countries to establish a development plan to stem the flow of migrants seeking asylum in the U.S.

The Foreign Ministry said Saturday that the plan includes a fund to generate jobs in the region and aims to attack the structural causes of migration from El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras.

Excellent. Another win for us.

Good that he saw the light and decided he wants to stay friends with the US.

They are trying to avoid having the 30 million already here sending $25 billion a year home repatriated with extreme haste.

I thought that Obrador and Trump could actually get along better than most think. Both are mavericks in their own way.

good point there. I still think we should tax any money send to Mexico and China also. Most of the money was made underthe table and is not taxed at all.

I think the IRS should backtrack any money being sent out to make sure taxes have been paid on it.

U S A get ready for a real crisis. Several have predicted that this leadership will make Mexico more like Venezuela or Cuba (where amlo’s compinches have ruled). Then there will be a serious legitimate need for a refugee operation or asylum opportunity. Tell me who you walk with and I’ll tell you who you are. Esp. Dime con quien andas; y ye dire quien eres.

Well finally! Somebody is applying the principle of subsidiarity at last. Problems should be solved at the local level and not shuffled off to other countries. Maybe, possibly, all the crooks in the USA, Mexican, Honduran, Salvadoran, and Guatemalan governments will decide it’s time to do right by their own citizens. Or not.

Easy enough to sign a “deal.” But a lot harder for a bunch of Commie pigs and drug smugglers to produce real jobs.

The extra development that takes place in central America will not make life in that region as attractive as a welfare-rich, high-wage life in a fully developed, orderly country like the USA.

"They are trying to avoid having the 30 million already here sending $25 billion a year home repatriated with extreme haste."

I believe that. They realize that their billions in remittances might get taxed (which they should, to help pay for their education, incarceration etc.), or go away forever. It sure as hell isn't to do anything to help us.

Wait until Obrador legalizes the drug business. The deal’s already been done. Bet on it.

Subsidized with US taxpayer dollars? No thanks.
