I called this a little more than a year ago when I bailed out of Apple stock (about 6 months early).

Tim Cook doesn’t know what to do with the company and they’ve run out of ideas.

MS is only ahead now because of sheer market cap but Windows 10 is a dead OS. More and more people are moving away from it (and Apple should be gaining customers here but, again, Tim Cook is dropping the ball here and ignoring the mac books or continuing to press them as luxury devices) and MS has no other business but to try to shore up PCs which businesses are moving further and further away from (shifting to cloud services with chromebooks or laptops of any flavor)

as a whole the tech industry is dying except for Amazon as the rest all care about data collection and selling your information to the highest bidder - not providing technical solutions to the customer.

This is what I meant about the Microsoft vs Apple business models.

Very little of Microsoft sales are found in Windows 10 or the other two supported client operating systems (Windows 8.X and 7).

The consumer experience is there, but mostly Microsoft is winning with cloud services (Azure, O365, Intune, EMS, etc), Servers, SQL Server, Dynamics, etc.

99% of these things are business services, where Microsoft is making money by the fistful.

Now they are making a big partnership with VMware to provide and enhance cloud services with vCenter VMs. That's millions of VMs...

I would love to agree with you, but as much as I resent many aspects of Windows 10... It is certainly not a “dead OS”. That is wishful thinking on your part. In the last year Apple's share in the laptop market “fell from 10.4% in Q3 2017 to 7.9% in the same quarter this year.”

https://9to5mac.com/2018/11/21/mac-market-share/

Currently “the Windows platform as a whole being used by 88.53% of users. Meanwhile, Apple’s range of macOS operating systems are a distant second at 8.75%, and Linux third with 2.27%.”

People may not be happy about having to give up Windows 7, but they are moving to Windows 10 not away from it as you have stated. My wife and I acquired 2 laptops in the last year with 8th generation Intel Core processors, Windows 7 isn't even an option as the primary OS on these machines. It exists on both of our new laptops only in virtual machines. So despite wishful thinking on your part, consumers have very little choice and are migrating to Windows 10, in vast numbers. And the truth is that Windows 10 has evolved into a very capable Operating System despite Microsoft's incredibly annoying and obtrusive policies.
