New Jersey Attorney General Gurbir S. Grewal has issued a sweeping directive to state, county, and local law enforcement agencies to limit the type of assistance their officers can offer federal immigration authorities.
The new rules, his office said, are designed to strengthen trust between police agencies and the state's diverse immigrant communities.

I am not sure that I totally agree with your statement that these public officials are defying federal law. States are not “sub-units” of the federal government per the Constitution. This doesn’t seem to be the case when all sorts of liberal/leftist garbage is imposed on the states.
Where I have the problem is that these states turn around and claim the right to federal money which are relevant to the law enforcement programs they reject. What I would like to see is individuals in non-sanctuary states sue sanctuary cities and states for damages caused when one of their illegals travels / moves to the non-sanctuary state and commits crime, property loss etc. I would also like to see the so-called red states start using the sanctuary concept to avoid all leftist federal garbage imposed on them.
