I’ve never met a happy lieutenant governor. That is because most of them quickly become tired of playing second fiddle. They want to be governor, or U.S. senator, or even president.
Which is why lieutenant governors across the nation should be inspired by John Kerry’s recently published “Every Day is Extra,” a wordy personal history of a life lived to the fullest.
He knows how lieutenant governors feel because he was once one. That was when he served as the ambitious but discontented lieutenant governor under Gov. Michael Dukakis, whom he did not like very much, from 1982 to 1984, before running for the U.S. Senate. The Duke wouldn’t give him anything to do.

I really doubt Kerry wrote it. Or that S&S cared who did.
