Trump is withdrawing his admin from European issues. I think the insult from Macron and Merkel bleating about an EU Army have sped things up.
IMO Putin wants something from Trump but doesn’t have anything to trade. He then grabbed the Ukraine ships and sailors to use for chips. After some serious toothpulling, he’ll reluctantly agree to give up the ships and sailors if Trump gives him such-and-such.
