Unchecked climate change will cost the US hundreds of billions of dollars and damage human health and quality of life, a US government report warns.
"Future risks from climate change depend... on decisions made today," the 4th National Climate Assessment says.
The report says climate change is "presenting growing challenges to human health and safety, quality of life, and the rate of economic growth".
The warning is at odds with the Trump administration's fossil fuels agenda.
The White House said the report - compiled with help from numerous US government agencies and departments - was inaccurate.
Spokeswoman Lindsay Walters said it was "largely based on the most extreme scenario, which contradicts long-established trends by assuming that... there would be limited technology and innovation, and a rapidly expanding population".
The world's leading scientists agree that climate change is human-induced and warn that natural fluctuations in temperature are being exacerbated by human activity.

Environmental groups said the report underlined their demands for action.
Brenda Ekwurzel, director of climate science at the Union of Concerned Scientists and one of the report's authors, said the report made it clear that climate change was not "some problem in the distant future".
"It's happening right now in every part of the country," she said.
That view was echoed by Abigail Dillen, president of environmental group Earthjustice.
"While President Trump continues to ignore the threat of climate change, his own administration is sounding the alarm," she said.

When we had the solar eclipse a while back the times and the path were predicted well in advance, and they came true. That’s real understanding of the event and there’s nothing close to that from the Global Warming religion.

The lift in the U.S. economy, thanks to President Trump, has increased the wheels of production. Think the pizza effect: The more people who can afford pizza the more pizzas will be made.
The economy is firing up the pizza ovens. New workers are on the roads; doing the work commute. New robots are consuming more electricity to deal with the increasing manufacture of goods. And more workers are expending heat from their bodies as they do what companies cannot afford what the robots can do or, cannot do. Then, there is the increased energy for distribution: Ships, airplanes, trains, trucks and cars. Then there is the energy of warehousing and fork lifting. Finally, there is the energy of using those new products. Home pizza ovens anyone?
Just my theory: All that energy, in the form of heat, goes into the atmosphere. Low pressure systems occur when an air mass warms. Increased human activity may be increasing those low pressure areas and causing wild weather conditions. It reminds me of the old song, “June is Busting Out All Over.” Yes. Your mind has to go deep to understand the symbolism:

Can tornadoes in Oregon may be the canary in the mine shaft of coming events? Is CO2 just a scapegoat for ordinary human activity? Maybe I can get a government grant to find out if my theory is correct. Until then, people need to shut up, get their asses out of bed and go to work.
We need to find those Harvard and Yale Scientists and kill them. Anyone trying to sell the idea of turning down the heat of the Sun should be removed from the equation.
Trying to "check" this natural process will cost many times more and have miniscule effect if any.
Global warming will have tremendous effects on the economy of the world because of all the things that government will do to try to stop it.
