Migrant Complains About Free Food She’s Been Given By Mexico, Calls It Pig Food

Deutsche Welle’s Spanish language channel, DW Español, traveled to Tijuana in order to interview some of the migrants living in the camps. A reporter asked one of the migrants how the living conditions were in the camp. The woman complained about the food she had been given in the camp, calling it food for “pigs” and saying she would “die of hunger” if she did not eat it.

“The truth is, the food that they’re handing out here is terrible,” the woman complained while holding up the food platter. “Look at what they’re giving us. Refried beans, as if they were feeding the pigs. And the truth is, we don’t have any other options. If we don’t eat this, we will die of hunger,” according to the Spanish translation of her answer.

Give her some Honduran-home-fried mystery meat (extra crispy).

When you’re invading a country, make sure to always demand the best from those being invaded!

Our drug reps. bring in Mexican twice a week on average. I make an entire lunch with black beans, a little chicken, some guacamole and a touch of salsa & sour cream. Black beans are the bomb!

Well (dubiously) if you say so...

In my experience black beans lead to explosive noises...

If she were resourceful, she could
supplement the beans with rats, birds,
and bunnies.

It is pig food. That’s why they gave it to you.

Beans and corn will keep you alive.
Better yet tortillas, or anything made from tortilla flour, it’s very nutritious.

Hmmm...this is interesting. Honduran tortillas, at least in the more traditional rural areas where I live, are made of corn and a little lard or oil, nothing else. The corn is, however, prepared by an ancient Mayan process scientifically known as “nixtamalization”. The dried corn kernels are boiled in lime water for two or three hours, then hulled and ground on stone matates. Thus, in effect, the tortillas and tamales are made of ground hominy. Flour tortillas are mostly a city thing because wheat is not readily available to rural campesinos.

The caravan people for the most part are city-dwellers, few of whom probably know anything about nixtamal nor much of any kind of manual labor to provide food for a family.

This reminds me of a few things I miss most living in Central America: pinto beans, habanero chiles, and I’m about to give a plane ticket to the US for a couple pounds of good liverwurst!

Well, if 85% of all dope used in the world is done in the US, then there will be a lot of happy dopers. And undoubtedly most are Democrats.

Where’s the beef ?

Whatever that stuff is, I can almost guarantee it’s better than she made at home in Comayaguela. She’s probably bitching about the flour tortillas. Hondurans eat few of those, just the corn variety.

Not starving if they won’t eat beans. Beans are not pig food, I was raised on beans at every meal except holidays. No matter what else, my mom always had a pot of beans. Love them to this day.

The real point is we are told how these people are in such poverty, just made this long journey and they don’t sound hungry to me in the least. They are not that poverty stricken or they would eat what they can get.

A lady from Tijuana that was interviewed said the first night they arrived she and some other ladies cooked a lot of food to take to the shelter and feed them. She said she took beans and tortillas and they threw them in her face. I was stunned when I heard that. These are not hungry people, and horrible way to treat someone trying to help you.

My late mother-in-law, one of the most honest hard-working Honduran ladies I’ve ever met, used to say, “All food is good if you’re hungry enough!” “Ungrateful” wasn’t in her vocabulary, and she despised those who were that way.

Well if their food is important to them they should have stayed there and need to turn right around and head back.

If I travel to another country crying poverty I will not bite the hand that feeds me, I will be grateful. If they were truly hungry they would not be turning down food of any sort. Not only are they not starving, they never have or they would appreciate food and the spirit it was given.

They have no right to even think or expect people in other countries to feed them their native food. That is pure arrogance and extremely bad manners.

Sounds to me like someone made a lot of big promises to these people.
