The White House released new rules for presidential press conferences on Monday in hopes of restoring decorum among reporters. They include the following:
(1) A journalist called upon to ask a question will ask a single question and then will yield the floor to other journalists;
(2) At the discretion of the President or other White House official taking questions, a follow-up question or questions may be permitted; and where a follow up has been allowed and asked, the questioner will then yield the floor;
(3) “Yielding the floor” includes, when applicable, physically surrendering the microphone to White House staff for use by the next questioner.
(4) Failure to abide by any of rules (1)-(3) may result in suspension or revocation of the journalist’s hard pass.
Name have them built into the microphones. As a plus have them set to fire after a preset time limit.
POTUS or whoever may be holding a White House news conference should use a gavel to restore order.
If order cannot be restored thereby, the news conference should be ended, and the news of that day will be, “White House Unable to Hold News Conference Due to Unruly Reporters.”
I still think this is an archaic system that should be ended!
Remover the chairs, They can stand. Press briefing will be held at 0600. Failure to attend without pre approval from the Press Secretary office may be construed as willing forfeiture of your hard pass.
You will start all questions with “Mr President, and finish them with “thank you Sir”.
Could of had so much fun with this if we just stop playing nice with the clown posse. What are they going to do, lie more?
questioners must approach the podium and stand over a trap door........
If it had been me, Id have pointed out to the court that the POTUS doesnt presume to enter a court or the Capitol building uninvited because of separation of powers.And likewise, the sitting president does not presume to invite anyone to the White House after his term of office.
It is not for a court to decide who comes into the presence of the president. Only the sitting president does that.
But the reality is that Mr. Trump himself could have made that argument if he had wanted to. He didnt want to, because he enjoys putting journalists in the wrong PR-wise.
So, since the case is dropped, is the TRO still in effect?
Throw him out AGAIN!
“Need an inter that looks like our new temp AG, Whitaker.”
Or Planet Tyrus
White House reinstated Acosta’s permanent pass. TRO now moot.
How about the Mission Impossible method? “If you choose this mike it will self-destruct in ...
Thank You!
I was kinda thinking (hoping) someone was going to have a Taser.
So they can take it away too... since the case that created the TRO was dropped.
Or am I wrong? Any lawyers here?
Or any that play one on TV?
It’s not at all difficult to cut off the microphone as soon as the question has been asked. This would also preclude the rude interruptions while Sarah or POTUS are answering the question. We used to listen to Obama go on and on for 10 minutes or more without interruption, and without ever answering the question. Regardless of what idiot is asking the question, the mic should be cut off once the question is asked. Shouting or screaming should be grounds for expulsion.
No list of rules?
They’re there. Posted by others. Scroll up in the thread.
Good addition.
Now would you comment on the issue raised by Rule 1 and Rule 2? Rule 1 limits a journalist to a single question. By what means does one request a follow up provided in Rule 2? {;^]
Of course, the WH may use that to disallow any follow up -"May I have a follow up?", "Sorry, that would mean you were given 3 questions."
Raise your hand, wait to be called, then let the next person have their turn. Stuff us normals learned in kindergarten.
“That awful power, the public opinion of a nation, is created in America by a horde of ignorant, self-complacent simpletons who failed at ditching and shoe making and fetched up in journalism on their way to the poor house.”
