I’m sure that has plenty to do with it. I also blame many of the churches themselves. As a preacher’s kid (now 54) I remember many of the people in the churches were just fake. It upset and confused me as a child to the point I stopped going as a young adult. Tried to go back to it, but simply couldn’t find a church that actually taught the Bible. Spent 3/4 of the service singing, or having announcements, or “special music” by someone, and then offering (can’t miss that), and if there was time maybe a 15-20 minute sermon with a nice, long story about something. Ya...not worth it.
The Bible teaching should come during Sunday School or Bible Study Class. One cannot get a lot of Bible instruction during the worship service. The singing of hymns, special music, reciting of creeds, etc are all part of worship. IMO, worship is for God and not for us.
Don’t give up on church. Find a good church, because not going isn’t an option. Churches are not full of perfect people, so don’t expect perfection. However, God preserves his church no matter what. I suggest you try an Orthodox Presbyterian church if there is one in your area.
Many persons have this problem; it appears almost endemic.
May I recommend Michael Hoggard - Pure Bible Study as a stopgap until you find a Bible-teaching church.
