One eastern Washington town could become a "sanctuary city" for gun rights

The Republic, Washington, City Council is mulling legislation to shield itself from state and national laws that limit Second Amendment gun rights, including the recently passed Initiative 1639.

Republic Mayor Elbert Koontz said on Monday the Republic City Council will begin discussing the idea of becoming a “sanctuary city.” The move has widespread support within the city, he said.

“Everybody in Republic seems to like it and has decided that it seems like a great thing,” Koontz said.

The idea was sparked by a message Republic police Chief Loren Culp posted last week to the Republic Police Department’s Facebook page.

Culp wrote in the Facebook post that the proposed ordinance would “prevent federal and state infringement on the right to keep and bear arms; nullifying all federal and state acts in violation of the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution of the United States and Article 1 Section 24 of the Washington State Constitution.”

It’s conservative.

Kings County unfortunately runs the state.

No need for sanctuary cities. The 2nd amendment covers every square foot of America.

Republic is up by Curlew, Washington. It is about 10 miles from the Canadian border. It is very rural and very much armed. It has to be. It is the middle of nowhere.

The defense department, years ago, had a DEW line, where very remote radar stations were located. Probably a good place to be stationed during the Vietnam War. Otherwise, not a sought after location.

Republic is more north central than truly eastern Washington. Pretty much every town east of the Cascades is pretty conservative. Spokane is starting to lean left but not by much. The area between the Cascades and the coast is lost and will likely be leveled when the Cascadia fault lets loose.

I think a new state should be formed running from Kalispell, MT on the east including north Idaho and on to the Cascades in the west. It would be one of the last bastions of Constitutional Freedom in the USA.

"King" county, not "Kings"

This city wants to declare itself a sanctuary city for gun owners. This has nothing to do with illegal immigrants.
