Judge Grants CNN’s Motion to Restore Jim Acosta’s White House Press Pass

WASHINGTON—A federal judge granted an emergency motion to restore the White House press credential of CNN correspondent Jim Acosta—a victory for the network in a closely watched press-freedom case.

The lawsuit could determine whether the government can ban individual reporters from public buildings.

District Judge Timothy Kelly, who was appointed to the bench by President Trump, granted CNN’s request for a restraining order temporarily restoring Mr. Acosta’s press access to the White House while the case proceeds.

Lawyers for Mr. Acosta, the network’s chief White House correspondent, argued that the unusual revocation of a reporter’s press pass by the White House last week necessitated emergency action.

Trump seems to use the worst DOJ lawyers on the planet to plead his cases even before his own judges. They can’t even win a case on their own press briefing rules.

Who picked these guys?

"Let him in and completely ignore him. Turn the other press against him"

On another thread I said that if I was a reporter in the press corps, Acosta's ass would be grass, because his extended side shows waste time, and make it harder for me to ask a question. Somebody wrote back, and said the rest of the press corps hates him. My reply was, they might hate him, but they don't stop him from doing it over and over again. Even prison inmates will police their own kind. Reporters are too stupid, or afraid to do anything about it.

Unbelievable.

Property rights and due process?

The pass is issued by The White House, just like the microphones are.

Yelling at the POTUS in HIS very own house is not a basic human right.

I wonder who leaned on him, what threats were made, or if he’s got a brand new snazzy vacation home somewhere.

Just ignore it, Dems can ignore subpoenas indefinitely. Or even better, the first time he opens his hole, kick him out again, along with the rest of CNN.

I believe it was some communist leader who said that they would use the Constitution and our own laws to destroy The United States and our form of government.

I am reminded every day that John Adams, signer of the Declaration of Independence, the Bill of Rights and our second President said:

“Our Constitution was made for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.”

It appears that the majority of the occupants of this country are no longer moral and religious and have no restraints, derived there of, to prevent their willful destruction of this country.

It comes down to this, by Robert Winthrop, Speaker of the U.S. House:

“Men, in a word, must necessarily be controlled either by a power without them, either by the word of God or by the strong arm of man; either by the Bible or by the bayonet.”

Benjamin Franklin, signer of the Declaration of Independence

“Only a virtuous people are capable of freedom. As nations become corrupt and vicious, they have more need of masters.”

“Whereas true religion and good morals are the only solid foundations of public liberty and happiness . . . it is hereby earnestly recommended to the several States to take the most effectual measures for the encouragement thereof.”

It is obvious that we, as a Nation, have strayed far from the original intended path.

File assault charges for his manhandling of the mike against the intern.

Shut down all press events for everyone inside WH grounds perimeter

Have SS revoke all press passes

Provide written daily summaries instead

In 2 weeks allow 1 AP journalist and PBS access with presubmitted questions for Sarah to address.

Do the same for the next 3 months - if they want to be nice rotate the journalist and network. Presubmitted questions only.

Are we turning out Lawyers that are not learning any Constitutional Law or are they just ignoring the Constitution and making it up as they go along?

There is nothing in the Constitution that says the WH has to give anyone a Press Pass or provide any press briefings. In fact I don't believe, until the advent of the modern Presidency starting with Teddy Roosevelt, the WH had any formal Press accommodations at all.

There are a lot of news outlets out there that have no WH access or Press Credentials, yet this judge seems to think one reporter for CNN is entitled to be at the WH Press pool over others.

Trump needs to appeal this to the USSC and get a definitive ruling.

It’s a public building because it is owned by the public. And he has to obey court orders otherwise everything falls apart. So, change the briefings to somewhere else. And don’t ever give CNN a question.

Simple solution to this.... Just change the name of the pass. Then reissue all the new “credential clearances” to previous press pass holders, except for Acosta.

Have briefings be exclusively by video conference call, with it being split screen between the President and whoever is currently called upon, with everyone else on mute.

And never call on any news outlet who employs Acosta.

Yes, it’s disconcerting, to say the least, and others have posted this was a Trump appointee.

Perhaps POTUS can hold live video conferences over Daily Motion or Vimeo or some non-Google platform and then select questions to answer from the live pane. That way he is not interrupted or bullied by disruptors like Acosta.

I don’t think any court in this land could prevent POTUS from holding a livestream in the above manner.

Or shut it down at the WH altogether and go to a social media platform that is less prone to abuse than a WH press briefing.

In my post #129 I inadvertently left out part of the statement by Robert Winthrop, Speaker of the U.S. House It should read:

“Men, in a word, must necessarily be controlled either by a power within them or by a power without them, either by the Word of God or by the strong arm of man; either by the Bible or by the bayonet.”
