It’s hard to say whether this is just another publicity stunt by Avenutti to keep his name in the news or if it is on the level. After all, this drama queen does seem to have a lot of anger issues.
He’s a scumbag but he’s not dumb, so he would never have torpedoed himself on purpose just for PR. Not in the “Me Too” era.
