According to Turkish media reports, the Turkish government's Directorate of Religious Affairs (Diyanet) gathered intelligence via its imams and other employees in 38 countries on the activities of Turks suspected of supporting the US-based Turkish Islamic cleric Fethullah Gülen.
Peter Pilz, then an Austrian member of parliament, last year revealed that he had received documents from a Turkish source indicating the existence of "a global network of informants" -- spanning four continents -- reporting to Turkey's Diyanet on alleged Gülenists. In most cases, these informants were religion attachés at embassies/consulates.
In 2016, the Diyanet Center of America (DCA) completed the construction of a $110 million mosque complex in Lanham, Maryland. According to the DCA website, "The result is a small village that will be an important cultural hub for all visitors and residents of Washington DC area." Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan inaugurated the complex, one of many Diyanet-affiliated mosques in North America.
The Trump administration should be on guard. If Erdogan's mosques in Europe, Africa, Australia and Asia are being used as a conduit to spy on Turkish nationals who possibly oppose his rule, is it not safe to assume that similar activity has been going on in the United States?
According to Turkish media reports, the Turkish government's Directorate of Religious Affairs (Diyanet) gathered intelligence via its imams and other employees in 38 countries on the activities of Turks suspected of supporting the US-based Turkish Islamic cleric Fethullah Gülen, whom Turkey's government accuses of organizing a failed coup attempt in July 2016. Diyanet reportedly requested from its branches abroad to submit their findings in time for the 9th Eurasia Islamic Council, which took place in October 2016. These findings were then reportedly submitted to the "Coup Commission" of the Turkish parliament (TBMM).

Not only are the Diyanet used as sources, but Turkish Military Intelligence (MİT) also spies on Foreign citizens who criticize Erdogan's Turkey.
I know 2 people who have been threatened for being truthful but critical about Turkey, and their families were threatened.
2 posing as Kurds tried to get me to meet them here in the US. I was able to find out both were actually ethnic Kurds, but worked on behalf of Turkey.
3 Kurdish (Alevi) Women were assassinated in Paris a few years ago. This is not a new thing.
Is Turkey an ally? Hardly.
No doubt.
Are (fill in any country on planet earth) Spies Operating in America?
Yes, of course.
Exactly. Every country with the means operates agents in every country of interest to them. Heck, I’ll bet Canada has agents here. Nothing personal, just business.
All Correct.
However, what country do you know that tries to silence any criticism of their country in foreign nations? To the point that they threaten citizens (some Turk in origin, but not all) and their families. Or in other cases actually assassinate such people.
What Turkey does is not in the class of agents you would find from Canada or the UK. It is hostile to the world and hell bent on a Neo Ottoman dream.
All the mohammedan countries, all the communist countries and perhaps about half the countries of Central / South America and Africa.
So... about two thirds?
I am not saying that Turk is nice or our ally or anything like that. As a nation they are not housebroken. I am just saying that if you find this behavior surprising or unusual you have not been paying attention.
I am in favor of articles pointing it out however as most Americans and 98% of Europe is not paying attention or are willfully blind.
Savage nations behave like savages.
Which is why I am against being part of the UN as most countries have no standard of civilized behavior.
But that is another subject.
It is in the interests of ANY country who would be affected by the goings in in America to have spies here.
It’s OUR job to ferret them out, expel them or turn them to our interests.
That’s the way the world works, like it or not.
Ummm. China. Half the Chinese in Silicon Valley are spying on us. The other half are spying on them!
Wow! You must be a threat to their propaganda. I am thankful you found out their MO. Stay safe and stay strong friend!
But rather on point for the direction the thread is taking.
Just go to the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) and look around. Turkey usually has around 20-30 graduate students there all the time. Right in the center of the Air Force Research Labs and a nexus for the Intelligence Community at Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio.
No other foreign government, even among our allies, has such a large presence at AFIT.
I’m not a fan of the UN either.
You’re right about Turkey. Not house broken is a good description. The degree of propaganda to there own citizens is Huge.
BUT, should we be quick to talk about that now? The MSM is totally in the clutches and on the payroll of the Globalists.
There will be nothing more evil than Global Totalitarianism. No matter what man is in control. Ultimately they Serve the Father of Lies.
Thanks for that tidbit.
I did not know.
But it does not change what Turkey really is. At times they actually tell you what they are. At other times they tell the Big Lie about it.
Actions speak much louder than words. It is clear from their actions that they are not an ally to any of the Western Nations.
Your points are accepted.
While stationed in Turkey I worked with many current and former military personnel who bragged about the fact their children were also American citizens. They’d come here to the U.S. to attend graduate school and had kids here. Those who went to NPS in Monterey, CA had their health care paid for by Californians. Win/win for them.
Entirely too true.
Not only are they buying the F-35, they get to manufacture it in their home country. The dumbest arrangement ever. Giving away our stealth technology. To Turkey who will sell what they know to the Chinese.
