If you want a numbered list, that's called an "ordered list" in which case the ul becomes ol. Even with an orered list, each item needs an opening and closing li tag which stands for "list item" and the ol tag will automatically put a number followed by slash. 1) - 2) etc at the beginning of each lines as opposed to a bullet.
