The Democrats’ Beto Problem
NRO ^ | 7 Nov 2018 | Kyle Smith

Tuesday showed that the enduring deep-blue coalition of the future Democrats are always talking about still lies in the future.

The Democrats had a huge opportunity to unseat Ted Cruz last night. They blew it by thinking a gentry Hollywood-style liberal was the right candidate for Texas.

The not-overly-beloved Senator Cruz defeated Representative Beto O’Rourke by 2.6 percentage points in a race an incumbent Republican should have expected to win easily, on the same night Republican governor Greg Abbott won reelection by 13 points. Yet the Democratic reaction to O’Rourke’s loss is not, as far as I can tell, “Maybe we should have listened more closely to Texas” or even “I can’t believe we burned so much money on a longshot,” but “Losing narrowly is sort of a win.” As comedian-actor Ike Barinholtz put it on Twitter, “Ah sh*t Beto didn’t make it to the Senate. Oh well at least he’ll be president soon.” Only once has a sitting House member been elected president (James Garfield), but, hey, some Democrats point out, Abraham Lincoln was a congressman who lost a Senate race before being elected president. Yes, Democrats actually think comparing Beto to Lincoln is reasonable.

Beto for Prez? Really? The guy is such a lightweight, a good wind could blow him away. The only reason he is popular is because of his looks, which proves how superficial Libs really are.

“I can’t believe we burned so much money on a longshot,”

Between Beto in 2018 and Ossoff in 2016, the Dems burned $100 million on two candidates that had almost zero chance to win.

Two years to rub and shine this fraud up for a POTUS run.

The rats are already dressing him up.

He does remind me of the Kennedys, at least Ted. They both tried to leave the scene of an accident they caused. Only Ted was successful.

IMHO, Beto would be perfect for Biden as VP, though Joe's too damn old for the job, and he's white.

Beto, OTOH, can pass as a fake Hispanic.

Sheesh, I can't believe I actually said that.

He should check with Bernie about how it will feel when the Rat party decides he’s not the one.

re: “Is Beto clean and articulate?”

Better, more apt description: Spastic.

Can’t stop waving his arms when speaking, starts-stops abruptly.

Is Beto clean and articulate?

With all the money he raised, Biden wouldn't care if he was a deaf mute Pig Pen.

“Democrats won the district Ossoff ran in this time.”

They ran a much better candidate (McBath) this time and Handel was ... well ... still Handel. McBath also benefited from the ginned-up Democrat base that came out to vote for Stacey Abrams. Democrats gained a net 11 seats in the Georgia House, again because of the increased turnout by their base. Georgia Republicans must learn that they can’t take for granted Congressional and state-legislative districts that used to be perceived as “safe.”

Remarkably, however, the legislative districts enveloping the Peoples’ Republic of Athens threw out two Democrat incumbents who won special elections in 2017.
