It can be 55/45 or even 56/44 in the Senate.
The democrats will be able to make more noise, but they won’t be able to make law. Trump will still be Potus, R’s gained in the Senate putting an end to the likes of Susan Collins as Kingmaker, and there will likely be another Scotus opening in his first term and the Dems will be powerless to stop it.
Smoke and noise lasts a few news cycles or even a few months, but Trump’s nominees to the judiciary are going to have impact for decades.
Prepare to defend yourselves patriots. Peace is dead.
And what about the 61k sealed indictments? What if a couple dozen rats in the House get sent to Gitmo? (the RINOs having been allowed to resign quietly, thinking they were throwing the election, which they'd blame on Trump, and then elect Jeb)?
If I had to compromise tonight this is the split we needed.
The House can pass all they want, it will never move in the Senate.
The judicial pace can now pick up steam and all of the Senate approval roles going unfilled in various agencies can get filled.
56 Senators is a lot to work with when it comes to putting the stamp on things.
This is a generational election for changing the judiciary. The house can get flipped in 2020.
Q is bullshit!
Rosendale is ahead of Tester in Montana for the Senate at this time.
FROM ANOTHER THREAD and FREEPER willk:
First midterm election for new President:
Clinton 1994
House -54
Senate -8
Obama 2010
House -63
Senate -6
Trump 2018
House -30 (roughly)
Senate +4 or +5
Obama and Clinton didnt have to deal with 40 anti-Trumpers retiring. Otherwise Trump would have probably maintained the house too.
Might see 56 seats in the Senate. We’ll see.
Think of the judicial appointments. :-)
Democrats are going to be pushing Pelosi real hard to make a lot of noise from the House. One real downside of a Democrat majority House, by the way, is that immigration reform won’t happen without a Republican majority in the House. Draining the swamp will be more difficult, too.
They are calling House electxions too soon here, assuming the liberals get Republican sections of California that they never get, per H.A. Goodman.
Trump is going to be fighting impeachment proceedings for the next two years.
Not a time to say “We won!”
But it could have been much worse.
As I see it, the only major (and preventable) blip for President Trump tonight was Kris Kobach defeat in his race for Governor of Kansas. With hindsight, President Trump should probably have advised Kobach to not run at all so the incumbent GOP Governor could run (and win). Sad really. Outside of that, President Trumps record on yesterdays elections was just awesome.
Something to keep in mind is that Pelosi is 78, Waters is 80, and Feinstein is 85.
Ginsberg is 85 and Beyer is 80, and IIRC he’s got health issues already.
None of the Assoc. justices are spring chickens either.
People don’t live forever.
I’d say there’s a reasonable chance that some attrition is going to be happening over the next few years.
For my part, although I will not pray for evil to befall someone, or that they would die, I am praying that God would remove them by whatever means He sees fit.
Knight is ahead by a hair in California with only 33% reporting.
Denham, Kim and Walters are still ahead, with the Denham election still very close.
We could take any of Pelosi’s house bills, gut them, and stick whatever we want in them in the Senate... like they did with Obamacare... and “see how they like them apples.”
I predicted this last December, and said so here on Free Republic.
December 2, 2017
That bill raised taxes for millions of Americans, including those in high tax states like CT, NY, NJ, CA, and others.
Corporations got a MASSIVE tax break (from 35% to 21%), and to "pay for it" they raised taxes on middle income Americans by capping or eliminating altogether deductions. People are now forced to pay taxes to the Feds upon taxes they already pay. Yes, the tax cut to corporations helped the economy, but not everyone in the middle class got a tax cut because their deductions were capped or destroyed. The Feds "needed the money."
It violated the President's pledge as a candidate:
"We will massively cut taxes for the middle class, the forgotten people, the forgotten men and women of this country, who built our country....Tax relief will be concentrated on the working and middle class taxpayer. They will receive the biggest benefit and it won't even be close." Candidate Trump, Oct 2016
The television ads were devastating. Some people on FR liked telling other residents of states they don't like to p___ off, and that none of this mattered.
Well, it did matter. We lost some House seats directly because of this issue. People are not stupid.
These are photos of people lining up last December (right during the holidays) to pre-pay taxes so as to be less screwed by the Feds come April.

Colorado
New York
Georgia

I wish we didn't lose the House. But it happened. People here can say that raising taxes on millions of middle class families didn't play a role. Fine. They can keep believe that.
