Even without the picture, instinct would instantly kick in and they would try to go for air. A single wrap of tape isn’t going to hold that or hold them together for long. They had to be taped together with several wraps. Each wrap decreases the chance of it being a suicide.

The picture confirms the claim that they were indeed taped together. It also would show how the were taped together. That may show how they could have taped themselves together to commit suicide.

While what you say is true, if the desire to kill oneself is great, that may provide the necessary dedication to resist and overcome that instinct.

For example: I could never kill someone, unless they were providing what I perceived as a clear threat of doing harm to me or my family. So while my instinct is to not kill, it does not render me incapable of overcoming that instinct.
