Gangland serial slayer James "Whitey" Bulger was killed shortly after being moved to a high-security federal prison in West Virginia, the Herald has confirmed.
Bulger, 89, was convicted in 2013 of being complicit in 11 murders in Massachusetts, Florida and Oklahoma.
His attorney, Hank Brennan, who tried to appeal Bulger's life sentence all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court, declined comment pending notification by the Bureau of Prisons.
Bulger arrived at USP Hazelton yesterday. He was found unresponsive at 8:20 this morning, according to a statement from the Bureau of Prisons, which provided no other details.
"Life-saving measures were initiated immediately by responding staff. Mr. Bulger was subsequently pronounced dead by the Preston County Medical Examiner," the statement said.

Yes they do...and more so and quicker if they “know too much” about certain powerful people.
He played both sides against the middle. He was hated by the mob for ratting them out. FBI agency went to jail because of him too.
But he lived to 89. He can’t complain about having a short life.

Whitey was public enemy number 1 until Osama bin Laden took that position from him while he was on the run. He went on the run after being tipped off that he was about to be arrested by the Massachusetts state police on numerous changes including racketeering, extortion, murder, etc. He was most likely tipped off by former FBI agent “Zip” Connelly who protected Whitey and the Winter Hill gang because Whitey was tipping him off about members of the Boston mafia and the Providence Mafia. Many of the members of those mafia organizations were convicted of numerous changes and sentenced to long federal prison sentences.
Whitey, in effect, had used the FBI to dispose of his criminal competitors.
And who was the Assistant US Attorney in Boston when Whitey Bulger was feeding information to the FBI? You might have heard of him. He later became a director of the FBI and is currently a special US attorney—a bum named Robert Mueller.
