Ryan is not exactly the sharpest knife in the drawer.

Trump will issue the order.
The ‘tards will promptly shop for a judge (liberal, of course) who will block it.
The issue will then go to the supremes.
Which, thankfully, now consists of a majority who can actually read.

The issue isn't whether it can be done by executive order. The issue is whether it can be legislated or requires a constitutional amendment. That is what the Supreme Court will ultimately decide. It all turns on what "subject to the jurisdiction [of the United States]" means.

That said, it's good political strategy to keep the issue hot. The caravan is bad for the 'Rats. Being seen to be ready to take emergency action to do something about it is good for the GOP.

For the Speaker to go into the legalities is bad political strategy. Lindsay Graham is helping; Ryan is hurting.
