PITTSBURGH — Armed with an AR-15-style assault rifle and at least three handguns, a man shouting anti-Semitic slurs opened fire inside a Pittsburgh synagogue Saturday morning, killing at least 11 congregants and wounding four police officers and two others, the authorities said.
In a rampage described as among the deadliest against the Jewish community in the United States, the assailant stormed into the Tree of Life Congregation, where worshipers had gathered in separate rooms to celebrate their faith, and shot indiscriminately into the crowd, shattering what had otherwise been a peaceful morning.
The assailant, identified by law enforcement officials as Robert D. Bowers, fired for several minutes and was leaving the synagogue when officers, dressed in tactical gear and armed with rifles, met him at the door. According to the police, Mr. Bowers exchanged gunfire with officers before retreating back inside and barricading himself inside a third-floor room. He eventually surrendered.
Mr. Bowers, 46, was injured by gunfire, although the authorities said it was unclear whether those wounds were self-inflicted or whether the police had shot him. He was in stable condition Saturday at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
Federal officials charged Mr. Bowers with 29 criminal counts. They included obstructing the free exercise of religious beliefs — a hate crime — and using a firearm to commit murder. He also faces state charges, including 11 counts of criminal homicide, six counts of aggravated assault and 13 counts of ethnic intimidation.
The authorities said that he had no previous criminal history.

According to Wikipedia, Dylan Roof, who killed blacks at a church on June 17, 2015, was sentenced to death on federal charges on January 11, 2017. Why did it take 1.5 years? It is more than 1.5 years since he was sentenced. Why hasn't he been executed yet?
People thinking of committing mass hate crimes would be deterred more by the prospect of swift execution than by federal hate crimes charges. They probably want the hate crimes charges to dramatize their causes.
According to the Pittsburgh Post Gazette one of the SWAT Officers was wounded “critically”.

I am not sure, but I always thought it was because of liberalism. They salivate at the thought of killing babies, but hesitate to execute murderers. The Roof case my be a bit of a conundrum for the rats 🐀 It seems to me, since he murdered a bunch of blacks, he might be executed quicker, than if it had been the other way around, but who knows for sure?

Hate crime legislation does not protect minorities, quite the opposite, it is a means to create political predators.
The left is the biggest predator of unlike views as a result, with the antifa paramilitary police vigilante having no consteaints. With hate crime law they can attack jews with zero fear of being prosecuted.

So is any murder committed with a firearm now a Federal offense? Just curious. I knew murder of a LEO or immediate family member was a Federal charge as well as murder of Federal officials, judges etc. I'm confused about this charge mentioned in the article.
I’m wondering if any of his victims were Israeli citizens or had dual citizenship. Would love to see the US turn this evil over to Israel for swift justice.
They should do multiple death sentences, where just in case one execution doesn’t work, you can try again and make sure it works the next time.
