To everyone on the left and right, let’s call a FULL STOP from threatening, violent talk about your political opponents.
- No calling your political opponents dehumanizing names on tv or on social media
- No talk about hitting or fighting your political opponents
- No images or enactments of violence against your political opponents
The only reason my great-grandparents have actual government Extermination Dates for their murders was because one political side successfully and systematically DEHUMANIZED THEIR POLITICAL OPPONENTS publicly.
Your political opponents have different ideas on how to run governments. They are still your brother and sister human beings.
When Sarah Palin had an ad with Gabby Giffords and a target sight on her face, she did NOTHING wrong. No sane person would believe for a moment that she wanted Giffords attacked. When President Reagan cracked, “My fellow Americans, I’m pleased to tell you today that I’ve signed legislation that will outlaw Russia forever. We begin bombing in five minutes.”, no sane person thought we were launching nukes!
Language uses hyperbole. Does so all the time. And nuts are NUTS. In this case, a “typical Trump supporter” - a male stripper with a rap sheet a mile long - sent bomb-looking things, most of which never even arrived and none of which, apparently, could have worked. The guy is a nut job, and NO ONE is responsible for his actions EXCEPT HIM!
