Skip to comments.Mississippi Democrat (Mike Espy) says he'd be 'senator for everybody'
Posted on 10/21/2018 4:51:55 AM PDT by Libloather
As an African-American Democrat, Espy needs a strong voter turnout among black people, who make up 38 percent of the state's population. But he can't win without some white support in a conservative Southern state where voting patterns tend to break along racial lines. While most black votes go to Democrats, the white majority leans Republican.
Even as prominent African-American politicians, including U.S. Sen. Cory Booker, have traveled to Mississippi to endorse him, the 64-year-old Espy says he is reaching out to all audiences with a unifying message.
"I don't care about race or religion or gender or party or sexual orientation or disability," Espy told a diverse group of supporters at a recent reception in his Jackson campaign office, carefully pausing between each category.
"I'm going to be the senator for everybody," he said.

Instant campaign ad for someone...
Of course, he would say something like that. He wants a shot at getting rich off naive voters.
He went to college in DC and California. That wont work in Mississippi.
That's what they all say.
This guy was a POS back in the 90s. I assume he has only gotten worse.
“But he can’t win without some white support”
Racist MSM infers that the black Democrat is a lock for the black vote.
Is he the statutory rape guy, or was that another black member of the Clinton Admin?
“I’m going to be the senator for everybody,” he said.
The Congressional Black Caucus would beat that thought out of him on the first day.
That's not going to make him popular with the black voters.
No need because that's who Espy is anyway.
Did he vote for tax cuts or toe the Bolshekrat line?
Espy is not the incumbent. Hyde-Smith is and I believe Thad Cochran was still in that seat when the tax cuts were voted on.
