TECUN UMAN, Guatemala — A standoff between thousands of Central American migrants trying to reach the United States and Mexican police stretched through the night with some migrants hanging from the closed border gate wailing "there are children here" while others slept on the crowded bridge linking Guatemala to Mexico.
But they were met Friday by a wall of police with riot shields on the Mexican side of the bridge. About 50 managed to push their way through before officers unleashed pepper spray and the rest retreated, joining the sea of humanity on the bridge.
Police and immigration agents began letting small groups of 10, 20 or 30 people through the gates if they wanted to apply for refugee status. Once they file a claim, they can go to a shelter to spend the night.
As night fell on the bridge, the migrants' frustration turned to despair as women clutching small children took up the rows in front of the gate pleading with the Mexican federal police. Some migrants yelled "We are hungry!" Others wailed that they had children while others set up tarps to prepare for the night sleeping on the increasingly dirty and befouled bridge.
A Mexican marine official with a loudspeaker approached the gate and told migrants they would be taken in trucks to "a humanitarian attention center" in Tapachula, a border city in the Mexican state of Chiapas. But the official did not say when this would happen.

I didn’t read your post before I made my comment about the flag. Ive seen too many Mexicans with their flag hanging on their walls. Why don’t they have any American flags?
They are not fleeing persecution. They are economic migrants who don’t want to wait their turn to be a legal immigrant. Their own government is corrupt and their country is violent. Some want a job but others want welfare in the USA. It’s all about the money.
The invading scum don't want to be AMERICAN; they just want FREE STUFF and still be from the countries they've fled, in a different nation.

I see your point about population in this thread, too, after having seen it from the wrong perspective the first time. You’re right. Overpopulation is the problem.
But if you like, look at this side of the problem, too. First I’ll concede that there are individuals who tend more towards lifelong learning and ingenuity in every nation, and individuals who avoid modifying their behaviors and circumstances, also in every nation.
At the same time, though, some populations are generally more ready than others to be a little larger. At the least, some cultures generally adapt relatively a little more quickly to more peaceful, productive interactions and better management of resources.
As you are probably aware, there are natural limiters to population sizes. There are even some limiters that we don’t fully understand, yet.
As for Malthus, some followers are more self-concerned and indulge in their own points of view. Others continue learning as a more diverse pastime and see problems from various points of view (those who study Malthusians and other psychopaths).
There used to be an organization called Zero Population Growth. They were pro-abortion. I went to one of their meetings but they were mostly talking among themselves, people who knew one another, so I wrote them a letter. I suggested they form a sub-group called Zero Population Growth for Catholics, which would focus on all the non-abortion ways to control population growth. Of course the Catholic church is the place where people who don’t want to have their own family used to go for their “family.”
Anyway, that organization is not around anymore. They gave up. And I think I know why. If I’m right, it’s because sex and family are so bound into our culture that they can’t be lessened in importance and put in their proper place. They are like a Siamese twin. Before Ben Carson. You can’t separate them without killing one or both. You can’t even find them, or see them, as cultural features distinct from the whole. They are like invisible Siamese twins. They ARE our culture, ever since the Garden, and it’s why we are here, fighting for survival, and it’s why we can’t change.
But we can. But that’s another thread. Maybe better for the Religion Forum.

If our government wanted to stop it, they’d figure out who organized and financed this outrage. It’s an invasion, and what are we as a nation if we don’t stop those who are responsible.
There once was a time when the CIA could have been counted on to go down there and find out how and by whom this is being organized. Not any more, it would appear.
