The National Guard should already be there, full time, full strength. And not contingent upon anything.

In fact, there should be a string of permanent military bases along the border.

National Guard?

Bring the DoD. California has proven that the National Guard can be manipulated by the whims of state governments. A National threat should be checked with a Federal response.

Exactly.

But subject to a request by the CBP made pursuant to certain congressionally-established guidelines. I would add, instead of or in addition to the NG, where deemed appropriate U.S. military forces.

"With more than 60,000 employees, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, CBP, is one of the world's largest law enforcement organizations and is charged with keeping terrorists and their weapons out of the U.S...."

The organized, hostile movement of bodies across a border will always have a political element, but at some point must be recognized as an invasion.

Absolutely we should have the military stationed on the border. We’ve been since the 1950s in Korea, which is way too long. Yet we’ve little to nothing to protect our borders.
