Special counsel Robert Mueller's team has been asking former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort about his former business partner Roger Stone, according to ABC News.
Mueller in recent months has interviewed multiple people linked to Stone, a former Trump campaign adviser. Some of those people have also testified before the grand jury.
"I am highly confident Mr. Manafort is aware of no wrong doing on my part during the 2016 campaign, or at any other time, and therefore there is no wrongdoing to know about,” Stone told ABC News. “Narratives to the contrary by some in the media are false and defamatory."
Manafort and his lawyers have visited Mueller's office at least nine times in the last four weeks, CNN reported on Wednesday.
Mueller is reportedly investigating whether Stone knew ahead of time that WikiLeaks was planning to release Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton's emails, which were stolen by Russian hackers, ABC News reported.
Stone at the time made public comments that indicated he had been in touch with WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange about the release of Clinton's emails.
Stone in August released a video denying that he had advance knowledge of the emails.
At the time, he sent out out an email to his supporters claiming Mueller was poised to indict him as part of the ongoing investigation into ties between the Trump campaign and Russia.
Mueller on Wednesday told ABC News that it is "not outside the realm of possibility ... that [Mueller] may consider bringing some offense against me.”
Manafort pleaded guilty to two federal charges and agreed to cooperate with Mueller's ongoing investigation.
Mueller may not release his “report” until after November 6th, but it sure looks like the current strategy is to leak whatever they want about their activities without the need to document anything in another effort to influence the election.

Mueller has to wait until after November 6 so he will know whether the report is to be a blueprint for the Democrats to impeach Trump in 2019, or simply to provide ammunition for the Democrats for use in the 2020 election.

Mueller has a long laundry list of crimes and obstruction of justice ready to hand off to RR so he can present the report to congress.
Like you said, he can leak at will up until the election or drop the report to congress. Trump maybe using the release of the FISA docs, etc to stave that off. IOW, none of this is good
