The basic premise of Saudi Arabia is that both natives and other “muslim brothers” who come from other nations sign away their human rights at either the point of legal emancipation from one’s parents or when entering the country in exchange for what the Royal Family promises is a middle class existence (by Middle East standards) with no real hope of leaving if things ever go south or the standard of living isn’t what the mullahs promised you in exchange for working in a refinery, oil field or the service industry catering to tourists and oil industry. Think about that for a moment. And NOTHING in the “reform” comes even close to changing that. Why, in God’s name, would we ever consider these barbarians “allies?”

We are also there there because we removed the primary counterbalance to Iran's hegemony of the region, when we destroyed Iraq. Kind of a "you broke it, you bought it" situation. Since the removal of Iraq as a regional power, Iran has destabilized the entire region, witness Syria, Lebanon, Iraq and Yemen, with lesser problems in Bahrain, and Qatar drifting away. Abandoning KSA is exactly the lifeline that Iran needs.

I would add one thing, when I think “Saudi” (and I’ve been there), I THINK of the NYC woman with young kids at home, skirt blowing, legs showing, flying downward in mid air after choosing to jump from an upper floor of the World Trade Center. So, my loathing for all things Saudi has been simmering just below the boiling point for coming up on two decades. Then Bush helped them get out of town. I’ll stop here.

Marriage with first and second cousins is not uncommon, leading to increase in occurrence of genetic defects. Meanwhile, the Saudis are working on their story. Once new happening is that the reported killer of Khashoggi has now been killed in an automobile accident in SA. I wonder how many more “witnesses” will die soon. I had high hopes for the Prince, but alas he appears to be just as bad but in slightly more modern ways.
