200 Dead In Nigeria Oil Pipeline Blast

The number of casualties after an oil product pipeline explosion in Nigeria has reached 200, local media report, as people from local communities have gathered to protest the negligence of the Nigerian national Petroleum Corporation, which, they said, was the reason for the explosion.

The pipeline exploded after it caught fire near the Aba Depot last week. NNPC at the time blamed the explosion on oil theft, which is still rampant in the Niger Delta despite many attempts by the government to put an end to the dangerous practice. The cause of the fire, the company said, could have been oil thieves trying to divert some of the fuel flowing along the pipeline from Port Harcourt to Aba.

Protesters, however, claim that NNPC’s negligence led to leaks in the pipeline and it was these leaks that caused the explosion.

I’ve heard nothing at all about this. I know it’s a local story, but the 200 dead were still human beings too.
There may be lessons for all to learn from this.
Lessons in engineering security, and due diligence of inspections.

In August of 2018, there were at least 26 dead after the Morandi bridge collapsed in Italy during a severe thunderstorm. It connected Genoa, Italy to France. Sent vehicles plummeting 300 feet to the ground below.

Doesn’t matter how many times it’s happened in the past, they keep drilling holes in the pipeline to steal fuel.

You’d think the terrible consequences would sink in, but apparently not.

The Left will twist this into “we must ban fossil fuels”

“...Lessons in engineering security, and due diligence of inspections...”

That don’t help much when as soon as a guard goes by people run up and bang holes in the pipe to tap the oil.

Lots of problems in Africa with that.

Just as in Central and South America everybody that can taps into the nearest electric line.

Poor people with nothing will do anything to get something.

“Dear honorable sir,

I have received your name as an honorable and fair business man, someone I can trust.

Because of the recent dreadful pipeline explosion, my company has been assigned to recover over 40 million barrels of petroleum. Some buyers may be squeamish at purchasing this oil because it is associated with the deaths of many oil workers. As such, we are willing to sell this oil at an extremely reduced rate and I am told you would be very interested in this prospect. If you could forward your financial information...”

I work in Oil and Gas.

Theft by Africans is a big problem.

In one village, all the residents came out to the pipeline with buckets after someone hacksawed it.

It was a party. People of all ages were in attendance.

Anyway, the contents of the pipeline were pouring out onto the ground and it ignited and killed literally every single person present.

It was only the next day when a guy from the next village over found the scene.

I briefly saw the photo. It was a mass of skeletons, burned so completely no flesh remained. Over 100 people.
