The bodies of 11 babies were discovered Friday in a Detroit funeral home that was shut down six months ago. Police made the gruesome discovery at the Cantrell Funeral Home after they received an anonymous tip.
Police said eight or nine bodies were found in a cardboard box and the others in one or more caskets, all hidden in a ceiling. Police ordered a search of the building to ensure there are no additional bodies inside.

This is so horrid. And sad.
Sick mofos!
I don’t get it. Wouldn’t grieving parents have an open casket for their infants? Wouldn’t there a burial in a graveyard that people would have attended? Were empty coffins buried? Was this some sort of dig up the coffin recycle/re-sell scheme but how would they do that with graveyard workers around to see? Just weird.
My best friend was a mortuary worker, it wasn’t uncommon for caskets to be reused when the person was cremated. The cremation is done in a cardboard box, why not reuse the very expensive casket? It gives the family an opportunity to view their loved one in something more dignified than a cardboard box, and is one reason cremations are much less expensive than a burial.
Oddly enough, she didn’t get a casket, but was shown essentially wrapped up in a blanket on a block of ice before her cremation.
I miss her dearly, it’s been six years and three days...

Most likely unclaimed bodies from the get go. Also possible murder victims where the undertaker was an accessory to the disposal.
I would find it very surprising that a family wouldn’t notice that something wasn’t being lowered into the grave at the funeral, etc..
If they were late term miscarriages or stillborn possibly no funerals were held.
I want to know how long the remains were up there.
