Looks like it shielded the house behind it too.
Good job, Doc!
Mexico Beach just found the guy to write their new building codes.

It may have cost a pretty penny but they proved it worked. I hate government regulations but if people were made to build more than shacks, the rest of use wouldn’t be out $$$$$$ rebuilding and rebuilding and rebuilding everytime a hurricane comes through the Atlantic.
Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock.
Matthew 7:24,25
WOW! Good for him!
Yeah, well, everyone thought the third little piggy was crazy to build his house out of brick, too! Who’s crazy now, huh?
‘merica...
I’d say this is the only home that isn’t a total loss.
I know someone who had a home in the center of Andrew. From the front it looked like nothing was wrong. Went inside and the walls were stripped clean of their drywall. Something punched a hole in the back wall and all the wind and rain got inside. The insurance company declared it a total loss.
Force Field ?
Has any one heard how Mike Huxkabee faired. They were staying in their newly built home during the storm. Not certain where it was located. His wife was working at a shelter and some neighbors were staying with them
Dang the deck chairs even look untouched, like someone was just sitting there watching the storm.
If it weren’t for government subsidized flood insurance, everyone would build homes like this.
Round houses.

Some nice looking ones!
I built my house for the Hundred year flood. The house seats 8 feet above the ground, 28 feet above the normal river flow.
The Foundation footers are 21 inches, with inter-connecting rebar between the pillars. I have massive doors around the foundation that I plan to open up for the 100 year flood. This should help keep pressure off the foundation.
I spent an extra 10,000 dollars for the flood surveys and extra foundation improvements. Plus I have flood insurance if all else fails. I sleep good at night...
Looks like a looter target.
Wow
Being a beachfront building, it was spared from being mauled by wind-driven debris from other buildings to windward. A similarly-built home somewhat inland would not have fared as well.
