He was basically the sergeant in arms that handled transfer of classified information on for the senate intelligence committee

He was Staff for the Intelligence Committee, not for an individual Senator.
He had been they for a long time, and should know where a few of the bodies are buried (figuratively speaking).
What he was leaking seems to have been of the Dem narrative effort at the time.
Hmmmm interesting, could be worth checking for sure.
