Iran’s hardworking truck drivers continued their nationwide strike, marking the 19th consecutive day on Thursday. Reports from sources indicate this protest movement is continuing strong, especially in the cities of Ardabil, Isfahan, Mobarakeh, Zarrin Shahr and Bandar Imam. Truck drivers in the cities of Ardabil (northwest Iran) and Mobarakeh (central) held rallies at the local loading stations, protesting skyrocketing prices for spare parts and low paychecks.
During Wednesday’s protests, drivers and truck owners in Isfahan’s New Shapur district held a protest march outside the loading station’s city office. On Wednesday morning, shops in Tehran’s Shahrak-e San’ati were closed in protest to increasing prices, inflation, poverty and other economic grievances. This is the third day of a strike that began on Monday and spread to more than 50 cities and 21 provinces across Iran.
Meanwhile in Urmia Central Prison in northwest Iran, over 700 inmates in ward 15 launched a hunger strike following the suicide of one of their cellmates. The prisoners have been protesting since early Thursday morning, expressing their anger over the prison’s conditions, the warden’s pressures and his mafia-like measures. These prisoners, numbered at over 700, are currently on hunger strike.
Iran’s rulers are not able to get break through from this Delima. “We need extraordinary efforts ... to find solutions for those domestic economic challenges and to confront cruel American sanctions. Serious decisions should be made,” Khamenei the supreme leader said, state TV reported.
