A new Republican poll of the West Virginia Senate race shows a tighter race between Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin III and Attorney General Patrick Morrisey.

Manchin led Morrisey 41 to 40 percent in the survey conducted for the National Republican Senatorial Committee and Morrisey’s campaign and obtained first by Roll Call.

Polls for Republicans candidates for the Senate have definitely improved since the Kavanaugh vote, especially in red states.

This should carry over to House districts...

I didn’t see THAT coming. Must be W Virginians figure Manchin will turn into Brown or Casey as soon as he doesn’t have to worry about elections.

We now have seen enough of post Kavanaugh confirmation polls to have a sense of the mood of the electorate nationwide. The Democrats have screwed up magnificently. Now is time to pile on.

West Virginia voters aren’t stupid, we weren’t fooled by Manchin waiting until Collins had declared and Kavanaugh’s victory was assured before he jumped on the bandwagon. Everybody realizes that he would have gone the other direction in a heartbeat if the votes weren’t there. It came across as cowardly and political. He would have probably been better off politically if he would have announced two weeks before even if he went against Kavanaugh, at least it would look like he had a spine.

“WV is in play.”

You are not kidding if the poll is correct.

Too bad it has to be a GOP poll. Most of the media polls are slanted in the other direction, but I am not sure I trust what the GOP gets as results for this.

We are doing handsomely and with that said we pretty much have the following as pickups: NV, MO, FL, ND, so many more are close or in play. I need to come up with the whole list and they include WV and Virginia as Tim Kane isn't doing all that hot and NJ, freakin' NJ is in play.

I still say a pickup of 10 to 13 in the Senate is not out of the question....

Manchin is a cowardly weasel, that much is obvious.

Thank you for your vote for Kavanaugh, Senator. Next: you’re going to be FIRED by WV voters because your phoniness and cowardice are a colossal embarassment to the great state of West Virginia.

Below 50% is terrible for an incumbent.

When an incumbent is even with the challenger, they are in deep trouble.

FTA: Manchin led Morrisey 41 to 40 percent in the survey conducted...

It will be interesting to see if President Trump does another campaign rally in West Virginia. If he does, then Manchin is toast.

If that many Senate seats are indeed in play how is the House threatened?

The red state republicans were always facing an up hill battle... and Of then Manchin was the most likely to survive, but I personally didn’t think he would even before the Kavanaugh fiasco.. after it, I still don’t think he will... even though he is a far far better politician than Morrisey.. the national tide is just too strong.

If Manchin does go down, there is not a single red state democrat senator who will survive.

So far the post Kavanaugh polling in red states has avareage arround an 8 point swing... I would expect this will likely translate into a 3-5 point swing in most states... and with that sort of swing, MN comes into play.

I have said from the start I expect 6+ for the GOP in the senate, and that was before the Kavanaugh fiasco... and if the winds blew “just right” the GOP could get double digit gains.

Well thanks to the democrats self inflicted gunshot wound to their own heads over Kavanaugh, the winds are looking more and more like they will be blowing “just right”

Many of the House districts that are supposedly in play have have no polls on Real Clear Politics. They are guessing based upon what they think the generic poll says. This is just like what Clinton did with her assumptions in 2016.

“Everybody realizes that he would have gone the other direction in a heartbeat if the votes weren’t there.”

In fact, didn’t he state that he would do just that if it turned out he was the 50th vote to confirm?
