Christopher Steele breaks silence: We have a duty to ‘speak unpalatable truths to power’

Former British intelligence officer Christopher Steele is taking a subtle swipe at President Trump, saying that the media has key responsibility to keep a "distorted" and "one-sided" U.S. government accountable.

Steele, the author of the controversial dossier about Trump's alleged ties with Russia, made the comment in an email to an editor of Vanity Fair after he was selected to be featured in the magazine's list of the 100 most influential people in the media, politics, entertainment and finance, according to Sky News.

"In these strange and troubling times, it is hard to speak unpalatable truths to power, but I believe we all still have a duty to do so," Steele wrote. "I salute those on your list, and otherwise, who have had the courage to speak out over the last year, often at great personal cost.

"At a time when governance is so distorted and one-sided, as I believe it currently is in the United States, the media has a key role to play in holding it accountable."

Sky News noted that the comment serves as the first time Steele has spoken publicly in 18 months.

Steele has become a highly scrutinized figure over the Trump-Russia dossier he compiled. The documents include many salacious allegations about Trump's ties to Russia.

They've also attracted skepticism from Republicans and Trump over the fact that the Democratic National Committee helped pay for the research that eventually led to the dossier.

Among other things, Republican lawmakers have charged that the FBI improperly obtained a search warrant on Trump campaign adviser Carter Page because authorities were not transparent about the dossier's origins.

Sky News notes that Vanity Fair ranks Steele No. 38 on its list.

"The former head of MI6's Russia desk compiled the infamous dossier that raised the possibility Donald Trump was vulnerable to Russian blackmail," Vanity Fair said. "Steele even grew a beard and went into hiding - merely adding to his mythic reputation on the left."

Sky News added that Special Counsel Robert Mueller, who is leading the investigation into Russian election interference, is ranked No. 1.

Trump, who has repeatedly labeled the investigation a "witch hunt," is not on the list.

“Let him speak his irrelevant truth to Parliament.”

I was going to say go tell some “unpalatable truths” to your own beyond asshole government.

When the walls are closing in that's when they start squealing. I guess Christopher Steele took his cue from Brennan, Clapper, Comey, Cancklebeast and the rest of the squawking cabal.

This man caused a lot of turmoil in our country, and if you believe some who say he’s still M16 the UK itself has a lot of nerve and need to wind their necks in and butt out of our business. Never thought I would ever look at England/UK/Britain or whatever they call themselves, as anything other than ally. But here we are.

Steele is the golden shower boy. He probably came up with the idea while getting doused in Thailand.

Same publication that did a stylish spread on Valarie Plame, Secret Agent In Her Own Mind.

Notice how most all of the crap against anyone right of center has been spewed out of those intel rat holes for over 20 years?

This clown should be in prison or on the gallows. It is fine if he wants to speak unpalatable truths to those in power. It is another to participate in a massive fraud against the American public.

Every time I hear anything about speaking truth to power, I know the next thing I'm going to hear is anything but the truth.

Steele has no credibility, instead of reporting facts, he reported distortions in a political way.

Right!

And the 2020 Trump Dossier will have it on good second hand authority that the friend of an uncle of a professor of a college where my aunt's child went heard it on the radio that the mother of a man who read it on the internet heard that some guy was talking about, on the subway, that he heard his barber met a prostitute who saw a police report about a poster about this girl who saw on TV that three guys in a bar were talking about a politician who mentioned in a press conference that he heard his father had mentioned that he saw read some magazine that said that Kevin Bacon had overheard from a news anchor that four girls in an elementary school mentioned that their parents had heard on their CB radio that a trucker had saw some guy who said that he had a friend who knew a roomate of his who had a girlfriend that overheard at a Phish concert.

The Certainly-Credible Charge will be that that Donald Trump runs space-alien child-abducting mind-control narcotics-and-rape egg-sucking gangs with Nazi spaceships and Star Wars Sith death rays and magick dragons and unicorns that fart jelly beans.

Agree.

Magazines like Vanity Fair, GQ, Esquire, are conduits for propaganda.

There are a series of magazines such as Vanity Fair, Esquire, GQ, and others that are used to plant stories.

They're not hard news outlets so they can't be called out like CNN can be or scrutinized.

Their purpose is plant casual rumors that then become reported as fact by the Democratic Media Complex.

So CNN is just reporting what Vanity Fair reported and so on.

Steele needed to attack the underdog candidate Donald Trump?

Steele is “Hillary’s puppet.”
