CNN anchor Don Lemon told network contributor Matt Lewis to "shut up" late Tuesday during an explosive debate over what constitutes a "mob" in light of Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and his wife being chased out of a restaurant.
The back-and-forth came hours after anchor Brooke Baldwin tangled with Lewis and fellow CNN contributor Mary Katherine Ham over whether protesters should be labeled as a mob, with Baldwin telling both she wanted to "move past the M word" because it is "part of the weaponization of whats happening now on the right."
Lewis was invited on Lemon's show, "CNN Tonight" to continue the conversation, where the conservative Daily Beast columnist made the point that the Tea Party "didn't hound people out of restaurants" as was the case with Cruz last month or Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen over the summer.
The Tea Party did hound people. The Tea Party people hounded me when I went out to cover them! Lemon shot back. And do you know what I said? It was their right to do it because theyre Americans!
Don, if they started following you around a restaurant and running you out of places... Lewis replied.
But that doesnt mean that people dont get to object, Lemon interrupted. Thats your right as an American to object. Its covered in the First Amendment. Its like the first one!
After some extended verbal volleying over the proper definition of a mob, Lemon lost his patience.
"Will you let me finish? Matt, please! Let me finish," Lemon exclaimed.
"Bring it on. Mind if I have a drink?" Lewis asked.
"You can do whatever you want. You can leave the show if you want," Lemon replied.
"Im not going to do that," Lewis assured.
"Shut up and let me do it," Lemon said.
"Thank you very much," the anchor continued. "In the Constitution, you can protest whenever and wherever you want. It doesnt tell you that you cant do it in a restaurant, that you cant do it on a football field. It doesnt tell you that you cant do it on a cable news you can do it wherever you want."
"To call people mobs because they are exercising their constitutional right is just beyond account pale," Lemon concluded before going to break.
Chasing people out of restaurants — that’s what the First Amendment is all about, right?
At least we've moved on from dog whistles (for the time being)
OK, it’s a weaponized Mob.
Nothing worse than a GAY THUG!
Now I have a Black Sabbath song stuck in my head.
And its my first amendment right to call you a mob...on cable news.
Tea party types showed up in the elected Dems Town Hall meetings over Obamacare(2009 and 2010),
Dems now are hounding Republicans both those elected and in the administration at their homes, restaurants, grocery stores, ball fields.
First they claim its the same, then when they lose that argument they change it to ‘Its protected by the 1st Amendment’ (typical Dem bait and switch)
Not just Lemon but this line of arguments repeated on CNN and MSNBC
This is the NEW standard of civility created by Dems.
If Pubs try it it will be all over NBC, CBS and ABC crickets about this now their.
If you listen to fools.....the mob rules.
If it's not peaceable assembly, it's a mob.

Lemon and CNN will call it a mob when a Dem is chased out of a restaurant.....
The restaurant owner doesn’t have to tolerate the protesters harassing his customers.
And Don Sucka Lemon said at one point that it was fine to harass Senator Ted Cruz because he’s a public figure.
Don felt that it was wrong to protest he himself because he works in the private sector.
I’ll point to the BLM protests in NYC a couple of years ago when then were harassing John Q Public diners with no element of fame or public life as politicians or entertainers.
If the shopkeeper didn’t want the haters in there, throw them out.
When the black protesters did sit ins at the diners in the 60s, the owners let the thugs come in to harass them. The owners had the “no black diners” policy.
Lemon, you idiot, free speech doesn’t give ANYONE the right to interfere with the Free Speech of anyone else or harass and intimidate them. Read the first Amendment
It’s “PEACEABLY ASSEMBLE”!!!
I am an uneducated white deplorable. I believe the First Amendment means you can speak out about the government without getting arrested for it. It odesn’t mean you can say anything you want to anyone you want any time or place you want.
The masks are falling off faster than at 12:01 AM on Nov. 1.
Why did Mary Katherine Ham go over to the dark side? Fox cut her loose? Just a question of when not if the DemoBorgs assimilate her into their group think.
“SHUT UP!” he explained.
In this case the rule being enforced is "control the language."
As Orwell said, if you can control the language, you can control the people.
