Incredible isn’t it? Ten days after the near miss of a Cat 4/5 Hurricane. The dinosaur media just can’t bring themselves to recognize the executive abilities of two first-time politicians . . . President Trump and Governor Scott. These are sorts of men our Framers hoped for.

We’ve had fun the past few days reminding the locals here in Tallahassee-stan of America/Florida’s good fortune to have PDJT and Rick Scott at the helm. Heh, heh.

Well, our boredom ends tomorrow when we head back to the Cape. Since the water lines won’t come online anytime soon, we’ll stay at a friend’s vacant vacation home for a while. We meet up with an insurance adjuster at our home on Tuesday. From photos passed on from friends, I’m amazed how well our 25 year old home apparently held up. The newer building codes double the cost of construction compared to non-coastal areas, but are worth it.

On the downside it will lead to further gentrification of coastal towns as only the well-to-do can afford the extra expense. When property values settle down, we’ll probably sell and move to an interior location. The drama of hurricane season every year just isn’t worth it.

Thank you all for your concern.

Long ago, Neal Frank, former National Hurricane Center Director talked about that. He was the one with the crewcut.

He said people who live along the coast were making a trade-off of a great lifestyle for a few years, against the inevitability of a catastrophic storm. It’s a decision each property owner has to make for himself.

Me & Mrs abb have every so often discussed owning property in PC Beach, since we go there 2 or 3 times a year. But the anxiety would just be too much for me every hurricane season every time a sandstorm blows off the North African Continent.

Regarding the gentrification, there’s a piece in this morning’s PC News Herald on that very subject. A lot of houses in Mexico Beach were older places that were grandfathered before the current building codes. Cinder block construction on a slab. There’s still a lot of that along PC Beach. Places that have probably been handed down for generations.
