I think you read too much into what McConnell says. He knows firsthand, he has absolutely NO FRIENDS on the other side. Being “conciliatory” at this juncture just takes some of the air out of the RATs sails, and makes it more difficult for them to capitalize on the gaping chasm that separates the two parties today. You’ve got to know when the call each other “this distinguished Senator or that distinguished Senator,” they are really calling each other SOB’s.

You’re always better off taking the wind out of opponents’ sails. I’m always extremely NICE to the Rat-B*st*rds in my life. And they slink away. Of course, R*t-B*st*rds always crawl out of their holes again, their very nature. One day I will step on them, until then, disarming works just fine.
