Of course, the mass murder wasn’t just confined to the Ukraine, but to the Khazaks and the Cossacks at the Kuban River, also. They too died in great numbers.
I worked with a guy whose grandparents came over from Lithuania. The guy (third generation) had a very “old country” first name, and was very involved in Lithuanian dance, culture, etc.
He explained that it is because the Lithuanians thought they were going to be wiped out by the Soviets. No history, no remnant, no memory of Lithuania. They vowed to never let that happen again.
