Turkey used to be a fairly OK place. It had pretty good relations with Israel, a solid desire to become Western, and was quite the buffer against the Soviet Union (and other threats in the area).
Ergodan and his political party, together with a resurgence of political Islamism, have radically taken the country in a different direction.
I actually vacationed in Turkey ~20 years ago. Walked around as an observant Jewish man, an Israeli, and locals were eager to show me the sites and the Jewish history of their towns.
Not so much today.
