I remember back in May of 1970 .... five other Army Security Agency code guys and I had just arrived on a little bus at Fort Devens after our basic training at Fort Dix. Our bus arrived in a hard rain and it was around midnight.
When we walked in to get set up one of the regulars there referred to us as "NOOBS". That was cool and perfectly easy to take in the context of the military.
