What do the Republicans know and when did they know it? Seems like they know a lot more than they are letting on. They knew enough of Ford’s background to likely know the whole thing was phony. Instead of blowing it wide open at the hearing, they played along. I’m not really seeing the benefit of stringing along the public, not to mention Kavanaugh and his family.

Watch out for crazy conspiracy theory material to be attached to the truth of the McLean matter.
That tactic has been used at least since the late ‘70s to falsely discredit the truth about a crime and turn the general public away from it.
For example, a highly placed person commits a crime. The public official or his friends will simply mix that true information with false claims about an intelligence agency, military plot, Freemasons, mindreaders, creatures from other planets, or other fictitious individuals and actions.
Then public servants in charge of investigating (e.g., the Senate), will avoid acknowledging the true part of the matter or investigating it. No one wants to be associated with it then.
Do you see?
The way to avoid being defeated by that tactic is simply to keep the true and credible information somewhere separate from the garbage that they’ll attach to it, and mention the tactic being attempted to falsely discredit it.
Also learn to discover and disassociate with any individual who tries to “help” by associating themselves and the crazy conspiracy theory info with the truth. Such individuals will persistently claim, “Hey, I’m with them!” If nothing else works, they’ll try embedding a fake Nazi or someone like that. Remember that con artists tend to be flamboyant and proud.
They’ll often try to conceal things about their identity, past, etc. Might even be a slick individual who is oddly much older, has a face lift, etc. If there’s something weird about them, give them the cold shoulder.
