What exactly from the same time frame would you consider a good song?
Should have qualified my question. Peggy Sue was either a three piece or four piece band. Not sung by a solo singer with an orchestra backup.
And that song you linked was a music style that was dying and replaced in popularity by smaller bands like Huddy Bolly and the Crickets.
Oh, I dunno...
The Vogues- “Turn Around, Look at Me” is a pretty creepy song...
Lyrics:
There is someone walking behind you,
turn around, look at me.
There is someone watching your footsteps,
turn around, look at me.
There is someone who really needs you,
here’s my heart in my hand.
Turn around, (turn around,) look at me,
(look at me,) understand,understand.
That there’s someone who’ll stand beside you.
Turn around, look at me.
And, there’s someone who’ll love and guide you.
Turn around, look at me.
Oh, I’ve waited, but. I’ll wait forever for you to come to me.
Look at someone (look at someone) who really loves you,
yeah, really loves you.
Turn around, look at me.
Turn around, look at me.
Here are a few.
This is even creepier, but I think it's a different Vogues.
Which Witch Doctor?--The Vogues (1958)
What was it about the glasses? During this same period KMID in Midland had a one hour music program (The Pioneer Furniture Hour) that was a running joke about the lead singers “coke bottle” glasses. His name was Roy Orbison.

Texas gave us a lot of singers. How about Janis Joplin from Port Arthur.
You said it! A stalker’s anthem. Creepy indeed.
Turn Around, Look at Me--Glen Campbell (1961)
Wow. Leave that on her funeral home’s memorial webpage.
The original
RIP.
How true. amen.
KMID (still channel 2)?
I used to know one of the newscasters there (Brian Williams, back in the early 80s)...
(Also, will never forget KRIG!!)
Lousy lyrics and weak melody, but the rhythm section (drums & stand-up base) really rocked!
Although not considered rnr, just about anything from The Platters, and some by The Drifters...also some Elvis.
“Blueberry Hill”-—Fats Domino
