Majority leader again decries Democrats for delay and obstruction

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is insisting the vote on confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court will take place before week’s end.

The Kentucky Republican, speaking on the Senate floor Monday afternoon, said the Democrats chose to hold the allegations against Kavanaugh “in reserve” in order to derail the nomination.

He spoke about how the Democrats who first received the allegations handled them. He specifically mentioned a law firm with “politically connected lawyers” that McConnell says Democrats advised Kavanaugh’s accuser to hire. Those lawyers are set to hold a fundraiser for Democrats this week, McConnell said.

He must know something. He won’t schedule the vote if he doesn’t have the votes. Maybe he has concrete assurances that he has at least 51 without Flake. Otherwise he sits on it until the Senate adjourns.

It's no coincidence that McConnell declares a spine after Trump showed everyone what one looks like this morning.

Spine envy. Trump didn't pussy-foot about today. I can still say "pussy-foot", right?

I agree with you, I fully expect Flake to vote to confirm, but its the fact that Collins are Murkowski are “holding out” that are really the basis of all this drama...

Flake is a small man with big ambitions, he is all about making anything he can about him....

SO if you know they are on board, you can just tell him to stick it... fact that Collins, I believe supported Flakes demand is why we went through this...

All he needs is 50... Pence breaks the tie...

But I have expected all along this is a 52-55 vote confirmation when it finally gets held....

That would be the miracle we are looking for. A vote.

I frankly don’t give a damn how much pork he had to give these two, the point NOW is we can NOT let this circus go on ANY LONGER, more importantly we can NOT let the Dems win this battle this IS the PUBBIES last hill!!! WE ALL KNOW that these two RINOS are NOT Republicans in any way shape or form and we MUST be rid of them, HOWEVER for now give them whatever the hell they want and WE WILL deal with them later!!!

I do not disagree with you.

I think some opportunists saw how desperately their votes were needed and went back to the old tried-and-true “what’s it worth to you?”

Alaskans already had a chance to rid themselves of Murkowski and they blew it.

Investigation into high school shenanigans ends Wednesday. Vote Friday. BK sworn in at 4:00. Liberal heads implode at 4:01. Investigations into unscrupulous Dims continue. Hey, they wanted investigations.

A new week, same old song.

If McConnell had any real leadership, the floor vote would have been LAST Monday.

If McConnell does call for a vote this week, watch the Dems and media whine and complain — until McConnell gives them another extension.

Personally I think we need to chase down every drunken party every Democrat Senator ever attended while they were in college.

Nothing Mitch has said about this nomination has been false. I give him props for always following through on what he says about senate confirmations. If he says this week, it’s this week. This gives me great comfort. Not a Mitch fan, but give credit where credit is due.
Early on, McConnell wasn’t on board with Trump - and he behaved badly. Lately, as you say, “credit where credit is due.”

Who knows what McConnell had to do to get to 50, but . . .

Could he even have cut a deal with Manchin?

This whole thing is pathetic but is a reflection of where our country is in stupidity.

never happen, lying Mitch is on their side

Making this promise and breaking would make McConnell himself look bad. There is no reason to believe there won't be a vote.

So far, on judicial confirmation, Mitch has done a very good job.

Yes. Say what you will about McTurtle but he has been solid on judicial confirmations. He understands their importance and has led more judicial confirmations through the Senate than at any time in recent history. If Mitch says there will be a vote, up or down on Kavanaugh this week I'm betting it happens.

Agreed. Nothing will stop the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court now. All of the senators’ votes are publicly vowed in writing and then some. Let those who transparently oppose it continue their hysterical episode of nay-saying and waste their time. It’s really a good thing, that they’re so lacking in civics knowledge.

Maybe they’ll throw themselves in front of horses, as the limey feminist brutes did for comic relief.

Collins and Murkowski likely held him up for more pork in exchange for yes votes. It’s how things are done there.

I can live with that as judicial confirmations are far more important than pork.

If either one fails to confirm, though, all pork in the future needs to be cut off.

Exactly. People seem to forget McConnell’s work on getting 68 judges confirmed thus far. He’ll get it done.
